SCENARIO:
Washington University School of Law, one of the nation’s top law schools, had a need to streamline the creation of student seating charts. Student seating charts are created to ensure classroom participation and attendance.

ISSUE:
In the past, charts were prepared by manually cutting and pasting student pictures and names to a classroom layout. Obviously, problems would arise as students dropped or added courses. Washington University School of Law wanted to simplify the process by utilizing custom software linked with the SIS (Student Information System) to efficiently generate seating charts.

OUR APPROACH:
We proposed seatGEN, a customized online student seating chart with point and click capabilities. The design utilizes a web based interface and links with live student information to update charts as students added or dropped classes.

RESULTS:
AppointLink delivered an online product that allowed administration to reduce chart creation time from 2.5 hours to less than 15 minutes per class. It created an enhanced look and printout for all classroom layouts to better serve professors.

VALUE:
The result greatly reduced administrative costs related to the seating chart creation process. The application saved over 470 hours a year in administrative costs and time.
WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW
“The amount of time saved is huge. A seating chart consisting of 120 students used to take a minimum of 2-3 hours to make; with the new system it now takes 15 minutes or less.”

YALE LAW SCHOOL
“The integration process for this application was the easiest we have had by any outside vender.”
